A printer/copier with all the features you would ever want (except color). You can add about as many finishers as are available. The unit comes with a helpful auditron that monitors usage of various users and groups. Management can be done via the touchscreen console or via a webpage over the network. Auto duplexing, book mode, and other helpful copy features are included with the base package. This would be a brilliant printer if they could just write a decent driver. The documentation claims to support about every printing protocol in existence, but getting them to work may be a challenge in a heterogeneous environment.

Problems: Unix drivers are piss poor. Trying to use this printer with unix based systems is a nightmare at best and the drivers are so badly written you wonder if they had a bunch of mentally handicapped monkeys writing the code. In some cases you will even have to do an strace just to get the driver installed because the logging so half-assed. Even if you manage to get the proprietary software installed, and even if it sets up the printer using the included drivers, you may be able to print, but the only output you get is the name of the driver and several blank pages.
Windows drivers work okay.
Macintosh drivers are slightly better than unix drivers. |
